Summary
Human disturbance significantly reduces the diversity and abundance of globally threatened birds in Chitwan National Park, Nepal. The study found that proximity to human settlements, livestock presence, and distance from roads and villages negatively impact bird species richness. Among five study blocks, Block E exhibited the highest diversity (H=2.108), while Blocks A and D, closer to human activity, showed lower diversity (H=1.744 and H=1.69) and higher dominance indices (D=0.2407 and 0.2361). Researchers recorded 437 individuals from 19 threatened species across 17 birding routes, highlighting the park's importance for migratory and endangered birds while emphasizing the need to mitigate human-induced impacts.
