Summary

The region of Baalbek-Hermel in Lebanon has undergone significant transformation, shifting from a marginalized and economically struggling area to one with potential for sustainable development through heritage tourism. This study identifies the unique economic, social, and cultural characteristics of the region, highlighting its rich traditional crafts and agricultural heritage. By proposing a model for a heritage tourism route—specifically a 'Route des Savoir-Faire' (Route of Crafts)—the research aims to leverage local expertise while addressing current challenges. The approach combines field studies with territorial development strategies, offering a blueprint for balancing heritage preservation, economic growth, and community engagement in a UNESCO World Heritage context.
