Summary
Adolf Hyła's Marian iconography, particularly his depictions of Our Lady of Sorrows, reveals a significant influence from Baroque painter Carl Dolci. Among the 65 Marian-themed works by Hyła (1897-1965), six specifically portray Mary as Mater Dolorosa, created between 1940 and 1962. These paintings are distributed across private collections and religious sites, including Kalwaria Zebrzydowska's Seraphic Sisters chapel. The study identified these works through a preserved catalog of Hyła's oeuvre, providing insight into his artistic evolution and iconographic choices during this period.
