Summary
Advancements in 3D modeling technologies, including web portals, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR), offer transformative ways to document and visualize historical mining activities. This study demonstrates that the ZEB Revo laser scanner, utilizing SLAM technology, significantly enhances efficiency by reducing post-scan merging time compared to traditional terrestrial scanners. The findings highlight the potential of these modern methods for UNESCO-protected sites like the Ore Mountains, where complex environments pose challenges for data acquisition and processing. By evaluating the limits of each visualization technology, researchers can optimize 3D models for accurate representation, addressing issues such as manual scan splicing and post-production merging difficulties.
