Research reveals that the Emas National Park, despite being surrounded by intensive agricultural lands, plays a critical role in conserving key landscape elements beyond its borders. The study found that the park's conservation function extends to adjacent rural properties due to intrinsic relationships between agricultural occupation patterns and physical landscape attributes. By analyzing connectivity potential across these properties, the research highlights the park's importance as a buffer for biodiversity in the Cerrado domain, one of Brazil's most threatened biomes.
