Summary

A study on Borobudur Temple, one of Indonesia's premier tourist destinations, reveals significant gaps in its potential to become a fully realized halal tourism ecosystem. Despite its global appeal, the temple lacks comprehensive halal-certified attractions, facilities, and programs, with limited government support, inadequate human resources trained in tourism, and underdeveloped research and infrastructure. The research employed a descriptive approach, gathering data through interviews with key stakeholders—including Borobudur Temple management, local businesses, LPPT (Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory), Indonesian Ulama, and regional cultural authorities—to assess four critical dimensions: destination products, government support, human resources, and infrastructure. While the study highlights Borobudur's potential as a halal tourism hub, it underscores urgent needs for systemic improvements to meet global halal tourism standards.
