Summary

Researchers optimized the extraction of polysaccharides from Umbilicaria esculenta, a lichen native to Huangshan Mountain, achieving a maximum yield of 27.68% under specific conditions: 100.37°C temperature, 0.98 hours extraction time, and an 11.02 mL/g liquid-solid ratio. Two purified polysaccharide fractions, HSSEP1 and HSSEP2, were identified, with distinct compositions—HSSEP1 containing mannose (12%), glucose (76%), and galactose (12%), while HSSEP2 was predominantly glucose-based. This study marks the first detailed characterization of these polysaccharides, offering insights into their structural properties and potential applications.
