Summary
A green energy transition framework for UNESCO World Heritage Sites shows that retrofit feasibility, institutional governance, and demand-side behavior significantly predict visitor support for decarbonized tourism, explaining 47.8% of the variance. While awareness alone did not directly influence support, it moderated the relationship between retrofit feasibility and overall support. The study, conducted across four Tamil Nadu sites including Mahabalipuram and the Great Living Chola Temples, highlights the need for integrated heritage-energy governance to balance decarbonization with conservation and visitor experience.
