Summary

A collaborative project in Wadi Rum, Jordan, has demonstrated the effectiveness of community engagement and advanced geologic assessment techniques in preserving ancient Thamudic inscriptions and petroglyphs. By implementing GIS-based Rock Art Stability Index (RASI) analyses, researchers have created a baseline database to assess rock art deterioration, addressing challenges posed by increased tourism, human interaction, and climate change. This approach not only aids site management but also provides critical insights into polygenetic deterioration processes, ensuring the long-term protection of Wadi Rum's irreplaceable cultural heritage.
