Summary
Indoor radon levels in the granodiorite area of Bergama (Pergamon), Turkey, exhibit significant variability, with concentrations ranging from 11±1 to 727±1 Bq m⁻³ and a geometric mean of 63 Bq m⁻³. The study, conducted over eight months in 20 rural dwellings using the alpha track etch integrated method, revealed a log-normal distribution of radon concentrations. Estimated annual effective doses from indoor radon exposure varied from 0.27 to 18.34 mSv y⁻¹, with an average of 1.95 mSv y⁻¹—below the recommended action levels (3–10 mSv) set by the International Commission on Radiation Protection. These findings provide critical data for assessing radiation exposure risks in this UNESCO World Heritage Site's cultural landscape.
