Summary
A systematic survey of the Sassanid-era archaeological site Tol-e Khezr in Firuzabad, Iran, revealed three distinct ceramic types—coarse with raised bands, glazed (alkaline), and dark-slip coated—that were not previously documented in this region. This discovery provides new insights into Sassanid pottery typology, complementing findings from other surveyed and excavated areas in Iran and beyond. The research employed a methodical approach, mapping 30 grids of 10 x 10 meters (50% of the site) and analyzing 644 pottery pieces using 12 variables entered into SPSS software. Diagnostic samples were selected, drawn, and photographed to establish a relative chronology and assess the site's usage. Additionally, architectural details in visible areas were documented, described, analyzed, and compared, contributing to our understanding of Sassanid strongholds.
