Summary

A study of the indoor aeromycoflora in the Central Library of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, identified 16 fungal spore types and 25 fungal species, with the highest concentrations recorded in October. Among these, 10 fungi were found to deteriorate books, with Penicillium oxalicum exhibiting the strongest cellulose degradation activity. The research used Burkard personal volumetric air sampler and Andersen two-stage sampler over six months (August 2016–March 2017) to assess fungal presence and its potential impact on book preservation.
