Summary

A study on Hwaseong Fortress and Hwaseo Park in Suwon reveals significant differences in how people perceive landscape value between day and night. The research found that while daytime landscapes are perceived as more place-specific, nighttime landscapes are associated with higher educational value. Additionally, the four attributes of landscape experience—educational significance, aesthetic appeal, sense of place, and importance—showed stronger positive correlations at night compared to during the day. This insight suggests that nighttime urban design can enhance meaningful engagement with heritage sites by leveraging lighting technology to create distinct experiences.
