Summary

Inclusive and participatory approaches significantly enhance the resilience of coastal tourism destinations when recovering from exogenous shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. A study focusing on iSimangaliso Wetland Park (IWP) found that most businesses within the park had limited adaptive capacity due to their size and nature, making recovery challenging. The research highlights that collaborative efforts are crucial for implementing effective recovery plans. This exploratory case study used purposive sampling, questionnaires with open-ended questions, and content analysis to gather and analyze qualitative data, providing insights into adaptive strategies for tourism-dependent regions.
