Summary

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) with logging data constraint significantly enhances the accuracy of detecting rock mass fissures in grottoes, addressing limitations of conventional GPR methods. By integrating borehole televiewer and logging data, researchers calibrated electromagnetic wave velocity, enabling precise depth calculations for anomalies in GPR profiles. This approach reduced false positives caused by interference, providing reliable location information for fissures, fracture zones, and weak interlayers in the Baodingshan Scenic Area of Dazu Rock Carvings, Chongqing, China. The study demonstrates that combining GPR with logging data mitigates uncertainty in geologic interpretations, offering a novel technical solution for the preservation and restoration of grotto relics.
