Summary
A study demonstrates that the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, located within the Cerrado Protected Areas of Brazil, has significant economic potential to sustain local communities and drive regional development through nature-based tourism. The research reveals that while global tourism grows at an average rate of 4% annually, ecotourism in this region expands at a much faster pace—10% to 30% per year—with visitor numbers and employment increasing by 13.7% and 12.6%, respectively, over the analyzed period. This growth is further bolstered by rising revenue from park entry fees, positioning ecotourism as a viable economic pillar for the microregion. The findings underscore the importance of conservation-driven tourism in fostering sustainable development while maintaining ecological integrity.
