Summary

Researchers have identified and described a new diatom species, Pinnularia wuyiensis, from the Xinjiang River in Yingtan City, located in the northern region of Wuyi Mountains, Southeast China. This novel taxon is characterized by its narrowly linear-lanceolate valve with undulate margins, gibbous center, and rounded apices, along with a very narrow axial area and asymmetric rhombic fascia central area. The study compares Pinnularia wuyiensis to seven closely related species, highlighting differences in size, striae density, and valve shape. Additionally, the ecology of this new species is explored, providing insights into its environmental adaptations.
