Summary

A rare surviving example of 19th-century English engineering, the Armstrong, Mitchell & Co. hydraulic crane at Venice's Arsenal, is being restored to preserve its historical significance. The preliminary study identified critical causes of damage and past interventions, providing a foundation for targeted conservation efforts. This crane, one of the last remaining from its era, represents an important technological milestone and is supported by UNESCO's Venice in Peril Fund.
