Summary
A unique and comprehensive pictorial decoration from the last quarter of the 1st century AD has been identified in Room 11 of the House of Salvius in Cartagena, Spain. This ensemble, part of a well-preserved domus with an atrium and peristile, features a lower section mimicking opus sectile wallwork and a middle zone depicting a seasonal cycle—one of the most complete of its kind in Hispano-Roman contexts. The study reveals a blend of traditional Italian artistic motifs with local provincial influences, suggesting continuity and adaptation in regional workshops. Technical analysis underscores its significance as a rare example of late 1st-century AD decorative art, offering insights into cultural exchange and artistic evolution during the Roman period.
