Summary
Intercommunal relations in the M'Zab Valley, southern Algeria, during the pre-colonial period were characterized by a complex interplay of collaboration and conflict among the Mozabite Ibadites, Jews, ḥamriyas, and nomadic Malikite tribes. This study reveals that coexistence was shaped by economic cooperation, shifting alliances, and power dynamics, providing critical insights into historical interactions that continue to influence contemporary ethnic and doctrinal tensions in the region. The research combines documentary analysis of demographic composition, historical roles, and local interviews to reconstruct these relationships, emphasizing the significance of pre-colonial history in understanding present-day conflicts, including those observed in 2015.
