Summary
This research highlights the complex interplay of environmental protection and land-use conflicts within the Chapada dos Veadeiros microregion, a mosaic of protected areas including national parks, an environmental protection area, a biosphere reserve, and a historical and cultural heritage site. The study reveals that overlapping legal boundaries and diverse stakeholder interests—such as agribusiness, small-scale mining, tourism, rural landowners, Afro-descendant communities, and NGOs—generate significant conflicts over land use and resource management. Geographically, the region's intricate patchwork of municipal and conservation area borders exacerbates these tensions, creating a dynamic where environmental conservation goals clash with economic and social pressures. The analysis underscores the need for integrated approaches to reconcile competing interests while preserving the ecological and cultural heritage of this UNESCO-recognized landscape.
