Summary
A significant reduction in savanna and grassland areas, alongside an increase in planted forests, pastures, and agricultural lands, was observed in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region following the implementation of Brazil's Forest Law (Lei Estadual nº 18.104/2013). This study analyzed vegetation cover changes between 2008 and 2018 using quantitative methods, including statistical analysis, to assess the law's impact on different vegetation types. While no significant changes were detected in forested areas, the findings suggest that the law may have accelerated land-use shifts, potentially threatening native ecosystems in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
