Summary

Two complete mitochondrial genomes of the black-spotted stout newt (Pachytriton brevipes) were sequenced, revealing lengths of 16,298 bp and 16,301 bp. These genomes contain 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, one non-coding region, and one control region. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that the two samples of P. brevipes form a sister group to P. feii, providing new insights into the evolutionary relationships within Salamandridae. This study contributes to understanding the genetic diversity and phylogenetic positioning of this species, which is widely distributed in the mountains of southeastern China.
