Summary
Youth-led conservation initiatives in Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have significantly boosted community participation and ecological restoration efforts. Over the past two years, active involvement in park management activities—such as wildlife monitoring and habitat restoration—has surged by 30%, highlighting the potential of youth engagement to drive sustainable conservation outcomes. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating qualitative interviews with stakeholders (local communities and park authorities) and quantitative ecological data, tracking trends before and after the implementation of these initiatives. These findings emphasize the critical role of integrating youth perspectives into conservation strategies to foster long-term ecological rejuvenation and community empowerment. Future research should focus on scaling up successful models, incorporating youth voices in policy development, and strengthening intergenerational collaboration for lasting impact.
