Summary
A significant decline in primary forest and increase in secondary forest and agricultural land were observed in Kinabalu Park and Crocker Range Park, Sabah, over a 28-year period (1991–2018). This study used Landsat imagery and maximum likelihood classification to map land cover changes, revealing spatial transformations driven by both natural and human activities. The findings highlight the vulnerability of protected areas to threats from population growth and resource demands, emphasizing the potential of remote sensing for targeted conservation management.
