Summary
A significant shift in the capital of the Classic Maya 'Snake' kingdom from Dzibanche to Calakmul around 700 AD is revealed, challenging previous assumptions about political transitions. This study reconstructs the elusive sequence of kings during this transitional period by integrating epigraphic and archaeological evidence from across the southern Maya Lowlands. The research highlights that understanding such complex historical shifts requires interdisciplinary collaboration and synthesis of diverse data sources, offering a more nuanced portrait of the serpent kingdom's evolution.
