Summary
Javan Banteng (Bos javanicus javanicus) in Ujung Kulon National Park exhibit strong habitat preferences, favoring low-altitude areas below 45 meters above sea level and avoiding higher elevations. A spatial model using Maximum Entropy modeling revealed that slope (37.6%), elevation (25.8%), land cover (25.3%), NDVI (6%), and rivers (5.3%) are critical environmental variables influencing their distribution. The study, leveraging remote sensing and geographic information systems, identified that Banteng population—currently below 500 individuals—shuns altitudes between 200–625 meters, highlighting critical conservation zones for this endangered species.
