Summary
A groundbreaking approach to the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage, particularly for complex sites like Italy's Sacri Monti, has been developed through the integration of advanced sensor technologies. This study demonstrates that multimodal geomatics surveys—combining terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping systems, drone-based photogrammetry, and smartphone LiDAR—can produce high-resolution 3D datasets that enable comprehensive documentation and scalable digital representation of vulnerable heritage assets. The resulting robust data foundation not only supports traditional maintenance workflows but also facilitates the application of artificial intelligence for enhanced 3D reconstruction and long-term conservation planning. This method addresses critical issues such as biological growth, salt efflorescence, and material degradation, offering a proactive, evidence-based strategy that minimizes invasive interventions while promoting the longevity and integrity of cultural heritage sites.
