Towards Master Data Management for Cultural Heritage: The Sacri Monti Web Platform
A data-driven approach using Master Data Management (MDM) has been shown to effectively manage the maintenance of complex cultural heritage assets, such as the UNESCO-listed Sacri Monti religious architectural complexes in northern Italy. The study leveraged Microsoft SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS), a customizable commercial tool, to ensure data quality, prevent duplicates, and track modifications over time. This framework provides stability and long-term software support, addressing the challenges of managing extended and articulated databases for cultural heritage sites. Initial tests on the Sacri Monti case study compared this approach with existing web platform information systems like BIM3DSG, Chimera, and Main10ance, highlighting its potential to enhance the reliability and efficiency of heritage management activities.
