Summary

A fragmented system characterizes the management of St. Petersburg's suburban residence museums, despite their unified branding as part of UNESCO's 'Golden/Emerald/Green Necklace/Ring of St. Petersburg.' This study reveals significant disparities in administration, conservation, services, and visibility among six palace and park ensembles inscribed under the 'Historic Center of St. Petersburg and related groups of monuments' (WHS №540bis). The research employs a comparative analysis of European practices, including Germany's Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin, Italy's Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany, and others, to dissect the legal status, management, visitor experiences, and promotional strategies. By examining these serial properties, the study highlights the challenges of maintaining coherence and consistency within a disjointed heritage system.
