Summary

Vesak celebrations at Borobudur and Sewu Temples in Indonesia reflect the cultural plurality of Buddhism, emphasizing mutual respect for diverse traditions while maintaining unity. At Borobudur, Walubi members from Theravada, Mahayana, and Tantrayana traditions conduct separate puja ceremonies before Vesak, alongside a shared main puja room, highlighting cultural differences. In contrast, Sewu Temple's celebrations fuse these traditions, promoting equality among them. This study, using qualitative naturalistic inquiry, reveals that Indonesian Buddhism embodies the principle of 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika,' symbolizing national unity through pluralistic practices.
