Summary
Researchers from the University of Northern Philippines, in collaboration with a local anthropologist, conducted an initial inventory and documentation of 63 abandoned stone/brick-and-lime vats (baldi) across 17 sites in northern Ilocos Sur, Philippines. These vats, many in states of human-mediated damage or natural deterioration, were found to hold significant cultural value for the province. The study employed descriptive qualitative methods to identify vat locations, construction techniques and materials, architectural features, current conditions, contexts, and ownership. Findings are presented through tables, graphical representations, photographs, and descriptions, providing a comprehensive overview of these culturally significant structures.
