Summary

Enclosure management significantly enhances the growth and nutrient content of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) whips in Wuyi Mountain, China. After 41 years of enclosure, whip number, diameter, flagella count, length, and weight increased by up to 169.2% in the topsoil (0–20 cm), while internode length decreased by 27.9%. Nutrient analysis revealed higher organic carbon and starch contents post-enclosure, with soluble sugar content peaking after 4 years. These findings highlight enclosure's role in improving bamboo forest structure, soil nutrients, and erosion prevention, offering insights for sustainable management of UNESCO-listed sites.
