Summary

Overtourism at Borobudur Temple, particularly its impacts on tourist numbers, physical infrastructure, socio-cultural dynamics, and perceptions, has been systematically analyzed through the Penta Helix model. This study reveals that while issues related to tourist volume, environmental strain, and cultural disruption are evident, socio-economic challenges remain largely absent from the site's experience. Using qualitative methods—including stakeholder interviews with academicians, businesses, local communities, government representatives, and media—the research maps overtourism phenomena across five key dimensions, providing a nuanced understanding of how Borobudur navigates mass tourism without significant economic pressures. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to mitigate negative effects while leveraging tourism's potential benefits.
