Cultural Interpretation toward Sustainability: A Case of Mount Kinabalu

World Heritage Site: Kinabalu Park

Summary

Visitors to Kinabalu Park, including climbers, exhibit limited knowledge of the mountain's indigenous cultural values, despite recognizing its sacredness. While they appreciate the scientific and historical aspects more deeply, dissatisfaction with current cultural interpretation efforts is evident, particularly regarding exhibit centers' insufficient coverage. Enhanced cultural interpretation could foster greater respect for indigenous traditions, deepen environmental awareness, and promote sustainable behavior among visitors. The study recommends improved visitor education to bridge this gap, leveraging cultural insights to strengthen conservation efforts.
