Summary

A new species of primrose, Primula sunhangii, has been identified from the Shennongjia Forestry District in Hubei Province, Central China. This discovery was supported by both morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses, which revealed its close relationship with Primula involucrata Wall. ex Duby while distinguishing it through unique traits such as glabrous sepals, short petiole, cylindrical calyx, and capsule. The study utilized genetic data from nuclear and cpDNA genes to validate the species' distinctiveness, providing a significant contribution to the understanding of primrose diversity in the region.
