Summary

Creative tourism development in Borobudur, Indonesia, can harness five key sources of creativity—nature, arts/crafts, spirituality, gastronomy, and language—to foster sustainable economic growth while preserving cultural heritage. This approach, rooted in the storynomics model, transforms Borobudur's rich history, culture, and temple reliefs into compelling narratives that drive tourism value. The study, combining quantitative and qualitative methods including surveys, focus group discussions (FGD), and interviews, reveals that collaboration among government agencies, local communities, service providers, and tourists is essential for implementing this model effectively. Unlike conventional tourism strategies, which primarily focus on promoting destinations, the storynomics approach integrates environmental sustainability, local wisdom, and economic resilience, offering a blueprint for sustainable development at UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
