La catedral de Baeza como síntesis tipológica. Articulación geométrica y fenomenología del espacio sacro vandelviriano a través del análisis formal

2026 — Article — WHEFCD217DEC4

The Cathedral of Baeza stands out as a paradigm of cohesive architectural synthesis, blending diverse styles into a unified formal language under the influence of Andrés de Vandelvira. This study reveals how Vandelvira's geometric precision and rhythmic modulation of structural elements transformed the cathedral's interior into an atmosphere of serene contemplation, distinct from the monumental grandeur seen in other Renaissance works like the Cathedral of Jaén or Úbeda's Sacra Capilla de El Salvador. Through formal analysis, the research demonstrates Vandelvira's adaptability to functional and symbolic contexts, offering a timeless model for sacred space design that prioritizes introspection over spectacle.

Definición geométrica y espacial del vaciado volumétrico de la Capilla de los Benavides en el Convento de San Francisco de Baeza a través del análisis gráfico

2024 — Article — WHE0E3D0B5CBE

Researchers have reconstructed the likely volumetric design of the lost Capilla de los Benavides, a Renaissance chapel in Baeza's Convento de San Francisco, using geometric and spatial analysis. By comparing it to other works by architect Andrés de Vandelvira and applying iterative Renacimiento Andaluz compositional rules, the study redefines the chapel's internal space based on its surviving ruins. The findings also explore how a theoretical model proposed by Vandelvira's son, Alonso, would have influenced the chapel's vault behavior, offering new insights into Vandelvira's experimental approach to centralized plant designs.

Do intangible factors enhance sociocultural productivity and economy in world heritage sites?

2024 — Article — WHE02E6662998

Positive emotions derived from cultural and historical dynamization significantly enhance sociocultural productivity and economic outcomes at UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Renaissance Monumental Ensembles of Úbeda and Baeza. Unlike technological advancements or educational interest, these intangible emotional experiences directly contribute to productivity, as revealed by a structural equation analysis involving 597 hotel employees in Spain. The study, conducted using SmartPLS 4 software, underscores the pivotal role of heritage site experiences in fostering both economic benefits and sociocultural value.

Analysis of urban vulnerability as a tool for cultural heritage preservation. The cases of the medium-sized historical ensembles in Andalusia

2020 — Article — WHE01B26430E0

Medium-sized historical cities in Andalusia exhibit urban vulnerabilities comparable to larger ones, with unique weaknesses that must be addressed for effective heritage preservation. This study analyzed 39 medium-sized Historical Ensembles in Andalusia using the Spanish Ministry of Development's Atlas of Urban Vulnerability methodology, focusing on socio-economic, socio-demographic, and residential factors at an intermediate scale—an area less studied than larger urban centers. The research revealed that these cities face significant vulnerabilities, challenging the assumption that smaller ensembles are inherently more resilient. Territorial analysis of results highlights specific urban fragilities, offering actionable insights for policymakers to strengthen heritage preservation strategies.
