The Aïr and Ténéré Natural Reserves, located in the West African nation of Niger, stand as a testament to the remarkable resilience and adaptability of life in the harsh environment of the Sahara Desert. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, this expansive protected area spans over 7.7 million hectares, making it the largest nature reserve in Africa. However, the region that enjoys the full protection of the reserve encompasses only one-sixth of the total area.
