Creative community-based tourism management model in Thai villages around Sukhothai world heritage and associated historic towns
A creative community-based tourism (C-CBT) management model has been developed to enhance sustainable tourism and provide immersive experiences around the Sukhothai World Heritage Site. The study identifies key factors for successful C-CBT management, including creative tourism resources potential, effective management organizations, and long-term targets. It proposes a three-tiered planning approach—short-term, annual, and long-term (1-5 years)—to guide communities in engaging tourists authentically. Through in-depth interviews with tourists, villagers, and entrepreneurs from three representative communities across Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai, and Kamphaengphet, the research highlights the importance of skilled village communicators or 'local gurus' to bridge cultural gaps and lead community tourism initiatives.
